I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend and a very Happy Veteran’s Day to any one who served our country! Muchas gracias. Thank you for helping to review your child’s extra clothes that came home with them on Friday, and for sending back warm clothes ASAP so that we are prepared if an accident should occur. Esta semana en salón 1... Great news!!! Students’ reached their pride ticket goal last week to earn “día de juegos” or game day! They are all welcome to bring in a game Tuesday 11/12 to share with their friends during “choice time.” Please check that this is an indoor game and not a toy. If you could review the game’s rules with your child so that they are prepared to teach their friends how to play, that would be wonderful! We are looking forward to hosting all parents and families for Friday morning’s “drop in” from 8:00-8:30. Srta. Colón will also be joining us! This week we will focus on two new high frequency words: “tu” and “veo.” We will add these to our word wall along with last week’s words: “yo” and “gusta.” Students have already done a great job finding these words in their books and around the classroom. Over the next several weeks in ciencias (Science) we will be focusing on weather, specifically air temperature and the tools we use to study the air around us. Our English Language teacher, Amy Behr, shared the following resource for parents which I found had some great websites and ideas for language learning: https://matsol.memberclicks.net/multilingual-literacy-resources-for-parents This week’s slideshow features a visit from guidance counselor, Laurel Pirelli, an outdoor Science lesson, Thursday’s assembly (thank you PTO!) and our very first “amiga de la semana” Srta. Victoria!

Hola a todos, I hope everyone’s weekend is off to a wonderful start. Thank you so much to all of the parents and families who joined us at Thursday morning’s “Día de calabazas.” Having so many adults there made all the difference for us teachers, and the students had so much fun! I also want to thank everyone for a wonderful parent/teacher conference season! I really appreciate everyone’s time and commitment to their child’s education - having your partnership is invaluable. Due to a conflict with a field trip at another grade level, we will be changing our Kinder “drop in” morning to Friday, November 15th from 8:00-8:30. Students will be showing off their classroom space and some of the things they have been working on. All are welcome! Muchísmias gracias a Kate Sambuco (room mom) for getting our Friday afternoon sign ups started. We look forward to starting this week! Thank you for sending your child in with any recyclable materials from your home to use for STEAM projects throughout the week. If you have any special interest or talent (song, art, science, etc) I would love for you to share that with the students, just shoot me an email por favor! This week marks the first “official” week of “amigo/a de la semana” where one student in the class gets to share all about themselves. I will reshare the directions with you all as well as the schedule of when your child has their time to “shine!” There is also the opportunity to come in as a guest reader (or singer) that week! I was this week's "amiga de la semana" and did some modeling about what each day entails. See slideshow for an example of my poster and my three things beginning with the letter "k." As part of our reading curriculum, students will also be learning “high frequency words” or “palabras de alta frecuencia” that will help improve their reading fluency and automaticity en español. These are words that will pop up frequently in their “good fit” books, poems, songs and our shared reading. I am planning on introducing two new words a week. This week’s words will be “yo” and “gusta.” For your information: Lexia is a free app that parents are welcome to use at home to support their child’s English language learning. Students can use their four digit code as the username and password. Do you know about Loker’s Community Book Stop? Come check it out right in the lobby and sign out a book to share with your child. There are books with a variety of themes such as race, inclusion and diversity. This week’s slideshow features nuestras calaveras, some special read alouds by Sra. Ramirez, el día de calabazas, y más. |
